ByteDance has relinquished majority control of TikTok's U.S. operations to a consortium including Oracle, Silver Lake, and Abu Dhabi's MGX under a deal closing January 2026. The American-led joint venture will hold 45% ownership, with ByteDance retaining 20%.

The agreement resolves longstanding U.S. national security concerns by placing algorithm security, content moderation, and data protection under domestic oversight. Oracle will lead technical operations including retraining TikTok's recommendation engine to eliminate external interference risks.
